My food journey began with my kids, and wanting to give them the building blocks to developing healthy eating habits. I cooked all their foods (from scratch) from the moment they were babies, starting to eating solid foods. With other moms impressed with my kids' eating habits, I started a food blog to share easy, essential recipes for busy families. I studied at the Institute of Integrative Nutrition to ensure that what I was sharing was indeed healthy. During this time I discovered that food isn't just fuel – it can also harm your body. Symptoms can include anything from tiredness to skin issues to aches/pains to chronic illnesses.
Having to eschew the preconceived notions of what "healthy" is, and making changes to my own diet (and feeling great!) I've become a strong supporter of highlighting vegetables into daily meals, and Yommme embraces the principles of balancing and nourishing life with food and flexible recipes as featured in my cookbook "The Plantiful Plate: Vegan Recipes from the Yommme Kitchen" (Feb 2019).
Eating healthy goes beyond the foods that we eat. It starts with where your ingredients come from, how it is packaged, and how food waste affects the planet. I am an advocate of plastic free, low waste living, and am a supporter and contributor to NGO Plastic Oceans International through my #plasticfreefoodie campaign. I'm excited to have co-authored my second book with them which will be released November, 2020.
