My food journey began with my kids, and wanting to develop their healthy eating habits. I cooked all their foods (from scratch) from the moment they started eating solid foods. With other moms impressed with my kids' eating habits, I started a food blog to share easy, essential recipes for busy families. I studied at the Institute of Integrative Nutrition to ensure that what I was sharing was indeed healthy. During this time I discovered that food isn't just fuel – it can also harm your body when you're eating stuff that your body just can't handle. Symptoms can include anything from tiredness to skin issues to aches/pains to chronic illnesses.
Having to eschew the preconceived notions of what "healthy" is, and making changes to my own diet (and feeling great!) I've become a strong supporter of bringing vegetables back into daily meals.I developed the Yommme™ philosophy through working with my clients with the principles of balancing and nourishing life with food and flexible recipes. The Plantiful Plate (Feb 2019, Countryman Press) is a collection of these mix-and-match recipes.
Eating healthy goes beyond the foods that we eat. It starts with where your ingredients come from, how it is packaged, and how food waste affects the planet. I am an advocate of going plastic free and am a supporter and contributor to Plastic Oceans International through my #plasticfreefoodie campaign.
I love to celebrate the beauty of food, especially knowing that it can be sustainable, guilt-free, and delicious too!
